After reading Mandel's interviews I feel like he was using the Dan/Amy pairing to lure in viewers and interest especially for the final season. I don't think Dan and Amy will be together now, and I feel used. What are your thoughts?
This is the kind of thing I meant when I said they should be at least concerned about inspiring a backlash.
Because building up a storyline for as long as they have with Dan and Amy and then turning around and saying “Psych! Actually there is no romance here” is the kind of thing that legitimately pisses people off.
Not because shippers are deluded and see Dan as Prince Charming (I don’t think anyone has ever thought he’s anything but shitty – albeit not quite as shitty as the last few episodes) but because there is no way to build up expectations for a relationship over seven years and then trash it without disappointing people.
Especially in this case, where they went into a two year break between seasons on a massive shiptease, and seem to be getting out of it in the most unpleasant way possible.
I have said it so many times – I am fine with Amy getting an abortion. I can even see my way to being fine with her ending up with a different partner, or alone, so long as she’s less miserable.
What I find frustrating is that the writers have gone about this in the most gratuitously unpleasant way possible – can they not see their way to a story where Amy chooses the abortion on its merits, rather than being abused and humiliated into it by everyone she knows? That’s not the character coming into her own, it’s the exact opposite.
